Costa Rican Power and telecommunications Institution is building "bridges" so that monkeys, sloths and other animals can move tree to tree over the roads and not be killed by motorists.

Regulator of Banks Being Sued

Now that Banco Elca has been closed investors are charging the officials of the SUGEF that they caused the bank to increase its reserves for loans that could not be recovered and sold the banks assets for less than they were worth.

Immigration Laws Redrafted

Currently the law states that temporary residents can apply for permanent residency after 3 years which was dropped from 5 years. The proposal is that this residency be reduced to two years before applying. The dollar amount is to be just $48,000 in the bank.

Fashion Magazine Publisher on Trial

Eric Volz was charged and is on trial for the rape and murder of his ex-girlfriend, Doris Ivania Jimenez and his lawyer is arguing that he had nothing to do with it. They intend to present the judge with evidence he was in Managua on the date of the crime.

Import Labor to Export Coffee

Labourers who pick coffee are becoming harder and harder to find in the Costa Rica because the Ticos are becoming more reluctant to take these back-breaking, low paying, menial jobs. Labourers are making roughly $12.00 per day's work.
