Americans do not have to feel dampened just because Costa Rica does not celebrate the Fourth of July as much as America does (and I will be surprised if it does). Maybe it is too late to tell you now, but I guess it isn't late for next year.
In Costa Rica, expat communities do the usual Fourth of July celebrations Americans ceremonially do since childhood. For a more detailed article on the festivities, read this.
