Government slashes 2009 growth forecast to 0.5 percent

The Costa Rican government has slashed its growth forecast for 2009 to almost nil. The new forecast, which stands at 0.5 percent, is a sharp decline from the previous forecast of 2.2 percent growth.

However, government spokesperson Rodrigo Arais said that any growth at this point in the economic crisis is already welcome.

Costa Rica has slashed its growth forecast for 2009 many times already. Last October, the forecast stood at 5 percent.
